Make a Wish

 by Grandma

Make a wish and blow out the candles
make a wish and pull on your half of the wishbone
pick the numbers you wish would win on this ticket
I wish I wish I wish
and where has it got me.
I've blown out candles that numbered sixty five
the wishbones I've broken could build a few skeletons
what a waste of paper those tickets made.
I've wished on stars
and found pennies
but all my wishes have come to naught.
The wishes I made were selfish ones.
How my life would be different had they come true.
I've three sons with families happy and healthy
seven grandchildren to love and be loved in return.
If kisses were wishes I'd be drowning in them
so there'll be no more wishing for fanciful things

I'll be more than satisfied with my lot in life.

All I wish for now is for more of the same.
A house is not a home unless it contains food and fire for the mind as well as the body. Benjamin Franklin
